Sears SR-2199
The SR-2199 (model number 560.21990350) was probably Sears' best-sounding 1-piece boombox. It first appeared in Sears' Fall/Winter 1983 catalog for $249.99. Two years later it dropped to $169.99. It was manufactured by Asahi. It measures 22.25 inches wide and 12.5 inches tall (with the handle down). It has a nice blue tuner dial, and two VU meters that measure input levels (not output). It also has nice brushed aluminum trim plates around the tape deck.
It has Dolby, APSS track search, and Wide Stereo. On the back, it has inputs for Phono, Line In, and Line Out. It has 7-inch Toptone woofers and 1-inch piezo tweeters. The Sears catalog says it has 5 watts per channel. That might not seem like much, but the sound quality is really good, with lots of deep bass and high treble. It's not brassy and harsh like many other boomboxes from this time period.
